Heavy Duty Tire Carrier Hinge Kit – Includes Weld in Sleeve. Huge 2.750 Housing Diameter! If you want to build your own tire carrier this hinge is a must. There are many options out there, but none compare to this. It is CNC machined in our shop from heavy wall DOM tubing. Features a 1-3/4 base diameter spindle, dual tapered roller bearings, oil seal, dust cap, castle nut with cotter pin. Taller sleeves are available from 5.2″ to 10.2″ for taller bumper sizes, for an additional cost. Please advise us when you checkout if you require a different size sleeve with your order. The sleeve is welded into the bumper to automatically align your carrier and hinge height and give it a clean finished look. No one except Competition 4×4 provides this sleeve. Other companies expect you to weld the spindle or shaft directly into the bumper. Doing it this way can create a misaligned carrier and once it’s welded your stuck with it. Welding directly to the shaft also weakens it at the most critical point. Add a good sized tire and and a little rattle and your asking for failure. If you are running large heavy tires or plan on adding additional accessories (weight) to your carrier, we highly recommend looking into our dual shear hinge kits. The dual shear design is bulletproof and will take all you can throw at it. See our other items! For both standard and heavy duty designs. The spindle is 1-3/4″ in diameter and comes with a 4 1/2″ long bearing housing. The bearing housing is huge with a 2 3/4 outside diameter. Don’t compromise strength by welding on the upper base of the spindle where all the weight is exerted. Put a few small tack welds on the bottom of the spindle to the inside of the sleeve. Weld the DOM tubing sleeve into the bumper while the spindle is inside of it, this will shrink the ID of the sleeve and pressure fit the spindle in place.
